Oscillations in the blood pressure levels can be influenced by many factors including exercise but if these fluctuations become a normal phenomenon, they could call for medical attention.
Blood pressure is a crucial statistic of our body. It is capable of affecting various body functionalities including cardiovascular risks.
In this blog post, I will share my experience with immense fluctuations in blood pressure levels. Rare and chronic ailments accompanied the condition.
Let’s find out if it was a symptom of my rare neurological problem, Isaacs’ Syndrome, or something else. I also wish to discuss the symptoms, causes, and treatment options. This post can be helpful if you want to learn some practical tips to overcome and prevent the condition.
Understanding a little about Blood Pressure
The pressure or force that the blood uses to get to the arteries is called Blood Pressure.
A Normal Blood Pressure level is considered to be 120/80mmHG.
High Blood Pressure
It is known as hypertension. It is known to cause headaches but may not present any symptoms until there is damage to the blood vessels. It could lead to a heart attack or a stroke.
It can be detected in various ways.
If the systolic readings are between 120 to 39 mmHg and the diastolic readings range from 80 to 90 mmHg. This state could be referred to as prehypertension.
Low Blood Pressure
It is when the systolic reading is less than 90 mmHg, and the diastolic reading is less than 60 mmHg.
This state is known as hypotension.
It signals insufficient oxygen and nutrient intake of organs. There may be a couple of symptoms including fainting spells, nausea, and dizziness. There may be blurred vision and shallow breathing.
The normal range of Blood Pressure levels in adults is considered 120/80.
It is normal for blood pressure to fluctuate throughout the day. Stress, physical activities, or sleeping patterns could be some reasons for fluctuations. It is important to visit a doctor if these fluctuations happen very often.
My Journey with Oscillating Blood Pressure (BP)
My story of BP fluctuations goes beyond my diagnosis of rare and chronic diseases.
In 2016, I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Isaacs’ Syndrome. Isaacs’ is a neuromuscular health condition that stems from muscle hyperactivity. In the process, I also discovered that I had Lyme disease. Lyme is a bacterial illness that gets transmitted through ticks.
Glaucoma also accompanied me. Glaucoma is an eye-related disease that damages the optic nerves. And Membranous Glomerulonephritis is a progressive kidney disease. I faced tremendous issues with my gut, stomach acid, and digestive enzymes. During my journey, I also developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Diabetes, Frozen Shoulder, Eczema and Blood Pressure.
My notorious symptoms led to a heightened sense of uncertainty. The never-ending list made things even more challenging. Those situations made me vulnerable to creating further complications to my neurological condition.
I wasn’t given a choice instead to pop 42 pills daily along with other treatments.
Was the fluctuating blood pressure a symptom of my rare disease? or was it a side effect of my medicines? or something else altogether?
Initially, I was busy trying to contemplate reasons and join the dots.
The process was about discussing my chief complaints with doctors and researching symptoms. The key was to check on test results and rediscover the basic steps.
With time, we discovered it to be the side effect of my prescription drugs.
Rare conditions like Isaacs’ Syndrome impact the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS). These nerves carry signals between the central nervous system (CNS) and body parts that lie outside the CNS.
Isaacs’ PNS effect influences our body’s basic functionalities and parameters. The nervous system becomes weak and prone to fluctuations in the parameters of the body.
Typically, my unstable blood pressure levels caused problems:
- Limited the blood flow effectively to the brain finding me flat on the ground.
- It narrowed my blood vessels in the kidneys restricting blood flow. It further added complications with membrane glomerulonephritis.
- Studies show that high blood pressure can increase the risk of further damaging the eyes. Doctors confirmed that my condition of Glaucoma was the ill effect of high blood pressure, diabetes, and other chronic factors.
- High blood pressure levels added to my restlessness and anxiety. It even added to headaches which made it even more difficult to relax or sleep.
These proactive Steps helped to Stabilize my Blood Pressure
- I decided to explore alternative health remedies, specifically Ayurvedic remedies.
- Based on my unique medical requirements, I was offered a made tailored advice to try a couple of herbs. These herbs supported my overall health and stabilized my blood pressure fluctuations.
- I kept daily track of my BP levels and discussed them with doctors.
- Making necessary amendments and following lifestyle changes, especially food was helpful.
- I discovered that some medicines affected my BP levels. Though getting rid of them wasn’t possible, however, I was advised on certain preventive measures.
- I followed an exercise regime within my limits.
- A good night’s sleep supported in stabilizing blood pressure levels.
Though the stethoscope way is the precise way, I found the easiest way to measure BP at home was by using a high-quality automated BP machine. Once in a while, I took it to my doctor to check its accuracy.
BP levels also played a deciding role in finalizing my prescription.
Potential health risks that could arise from unstable blood pressure
I was informed that fluctuating blood pressure isn’t always a sign of a bigger health problem. However, in some cases, it could act as a warning for future issues. I was asked to be careful as the following health problems are related to my rare and chronic ailments.
-
Heart diseases
-
Hypertension
-
Dementia

Vision problems
